Adult Summer Conditioning Programme

Railway offers a pre-season conditioning programme for adults and youth teams, rugby players and for other sports people at our grounds in Sandymount during the summer months. 

The aim of this programme is to help prepare athletes for the following season and also to educate them on their own functional movement while preparing them for the introduction of resistance and weight training.  This programme will aid significantly in injury prevention and also help develop good training habits for the future.

This programme is be delivered by Simon Dodd and Matthew Brown.  Both Simon and Matthew work as professional rugby coaches in Catholic University School and Railway.  They are both IRFU/IRB Level 2 qualified rugby coaches, IRFU Strength and Conditioning qualified, are trained in athlete conditioning and are fully Garda-vetted.   In addition, Simon has completed the IRFU Coaching Conditioning Course at Carlow IT, is IAWA Irish Olympic Weightlifting qualified, and has a certificate in Physical Fitness from Setanta College.

The programme itself will be run in three 4 week modules. 

The first module will comprise of a functional movement test both at the start and end of the block, some basic strength testing and a pre-habilitation programme.  This will consist of a full battery of stretches and mobility exercises to improve the overall performance of the body.  Information on correct diet and nutrition will be delivered throughout.

The second module will focus on ‘strength and conditioning’, with the final module focusing on ‘speed and power’.  All modules follow on directly from the previous module.

While participants will experience maximum benefits by completing all three modules, the first module is most valuable in terms of correcting and addressing poor posture and functional movement.  Modules two and three complement and build on these changes in terms of athleticism.

Each module will consist of two to three organised sessions per week, depending on requirements, and will include basic circuits, stretches, documented screening and nutritional information.  If participants miss a session, the coaches will endeavour to advise participants on how to keep with the programme while absent.

The fee is €100 per module, with €250 for all three.  Further discounts are available for group or team bookings and for club members.
